Many details of the quiet and mysterious Nina’s past are obscured, but the story slowly reveals that she had to struggle a lot before started her immigrant life. In her twenties she worked as a main dancer in a theatre where she fell in love with an aspiring painter. Their young romance ended abruptly when the regime loyalist theatre director got jealous and had the painter arrested and eventually sent to a work labour camp to his death. Decades later, Nina is still in constant hunt for the works of her former lover, and when she discovers a painting, she can’t stop thinking about it and would do anything to get a hold of the important piece of art.
